Glam Slam: Red For Women Of Color
First Published: December 12, 2011 3:11 PM EST Credit: Getty Images LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Caption Kerry Washington attends an evening with Ralph Lauren hosted by Oprah Winfrey and presented at Lincoln Center, NY City, on October 24, 2011Want your makeup to look festive this season, but hesitant to go with a red lip? All women can wear red, as long as the shade compliments their skin tone and clothing choices, says Sam Fine, Celebrity Makeup Artist and Creative Director for Fashion Fair cosmetics. Sam, who has worked with Jennifer Hudson, Kerry Washington, Iman, Tyra Banks and Vanessa Williams, shows how to achieve the look using Siren Call, Fashion Fairs Holiday 2011 Collection. KERRY WASHINGTON It all begins with the dress! For an event Oprah hosted honoring Ralph Lauren, Kerry was wearing a black Ralph Lauren column dress with a dramatic silver beaded collar, so we decided to go with a red lip that adds balance and beauty. Red is such a classic color, which doesnt overpower Kerrys classic features, especially when paired with brown eye shadow and tons of lashes! GET THE LOOK: Kerry has golden yellow undertones. If you have a similar skin tone, I recommend selecting a true red lipstick with slight blue undertones such as Fashion Fair Lipstick in Siren, coupled with Fashion Fair Light Brown Lip Liner. The Light Brown Lip Liner will neutralize the blue undertone of a true red and naturally enhance the shape of the lips. For the eyes, I prefer more natural shadows to off-set the drama of a red lip. To achieve this look, use brown eye shadow over the entire lid, then use Fashion Fairs Liquid Eye Liner in black to accentuate and define eyes. Extend the line slightly beyond the outer corner, bringing it up and out to a point. Eyes are complete with a generous coating of Fashion Fairs Lift & Define Mascara in Black. For cheeks, lightly brush Fashion Fairs Earth Red Beauty Blush along the cheekbone for a touch of contour and color. JENNIFER HUDSON Jennifer Hudson always allows me to play with different makeup looks. Her attitude towards clothes and beauty are the same look good and have fun! Ive done various makeup looks ranging from deep plum smokey eyes with nude lips to nude eyes and a deep plum stain on the mouth, so its no surprise to catch her on the red carpet wearing a fiery shade of red and looking great! GET THE LOOK: Jennifers soft mocha complexion requires a more orange-tone red shade like Fashion Fairs Lipstick in Intrigue from Siren Call, Fashion Fairs Holiday Collection. To achieve her makeup look from the Christmas in Washington Special, apply Fashion Fairs Touch of Gold Eye Shadow on both lid and brow bone, then layer Suede Eye Shadow in the crease of the eye. For an added bit of drama, blend Slate Eye Shadow on the outer corner of the lid and extend towards the temples. Cheeks are given a natural-looking wash of color with Fashion Fairs Beauty Blush in Bronze. Lips are carefully lined with Fashion Fairs Light Brown Lip Liner and set aglow with Intrigue Lipstick and topped with a touch of Clear Intentions Lip Teaser Lip Gloss to add glossy, movie star shine.
